The 16-19 Study Programme

The government policy on 16-19 study programmes can be found here. 16 to 19 study programmes guidance: 2025 to 2026 academic year – GOV.UK It covers academic and vocational study programmes and applies to all providers of 16 to 19 education in England.

The study programme for each student should provide a structured and challenging learning programme that supports their development and progression in line with their career plans. At Hallmoor School, we plan the study programme of all KS5 students carefully with each student to ensure that they are tailored to their needs, but they typically include the following:

Substantial qualifications that stretch students and prepare them for education at the next level or for employment. Our offer includes a wide range of accredited programmes from entry level to level 1. All 16-19 years olds have 2 options (Block A and Block B, and a vocational offer on Friday. Options include Food tech, retail, outdoor learning, performing arts, textiles, humanities, art & design, media, animal care, manufacturing, horticulture, sports and health and hair and beauty.

English and mathematics are delivered through Ed Excel Pearson functional skills and AIMS personal progress. Students work towards entry level qualifications in reading, writing, speaking and listening and maths.

Work experience to give students the opportunity to develop their career choices and to apply their skills in real working conditions. At Hallmoor sixth form, all students take part in a week of Work Experience in Year 12, 13 and 14. Students on vocational courses will have a half term experience at a local college to support learning and transition.

Other non-qualification timetabled sessions to develop students’ character, broader skills, attitudes and confidence, and to support progression. These includes Essential Digital Skills, Health and Wellbeing, The World of Work and Personal Social Development.

This programme is planned to provide students with a range of knowledge and skills to support them to become active citizens and confident young adults ready to move on to the next stage in their lives. We also provide a full careers programme across the year which includes access to a Careers Advisor on site. In addition to this we provide a range of enrichment activities, including sports, drama and forest school.
