Inclusive Attendance at Hallmoor School

Discover how Hallmoor School is championing Inclusive Attendance by listening to pupils’ experiences, reducing barriers to school, and celebrating student voice. Read how Amelia, our Pupil Attendance Ambassador, represented Hallmoor at the Birmingham Pupil Voice event and shared what attendance means to young people.

At Hallmoor School, we are committed to creating an environment where every child feels understood, supported, and able to thrive. Our work with Inclusive Attendance reflects this commitment. The national initiative encourages schools to look beyond traditional attendance measures and instead focus on wellbeing, individual needs, and the barriers that may make attending school more challenging for some pupils.

Inclusive Attendance emphasises collaboration with families, celebrating progress (big or small), and listening closely to what young people tell us about their experiences. You can find out more at inclusive-attendance.co.uk.

Hallmoor at the Pupil Voice Attendance Event

We were thrilled that Amelia Mahon was chosen to represent Hallmoor as a Pupil Attendance Ambassador at the Birmingham Pupil Voice Programme event held at St Andrew’s Stadium. Amelia attended alongside two members of staff, joining students from schools across the city to discuss what attendance means to young people today.

During the event, pupils talked openly about their experiences—what motivates them to attend, what challenges they face, and how schools can make attendance a more positive and inclusive experience. Amelia’s contribution was thoughtful, honest, and reflected the realities many young people share.

Amelia’s Perspective: What Attendance Means

As part of her Ambassador role, Amelia also created a written and visual piece titled “What do you think attendance means?” In it, she shares her personal view of school routines, friendships, future aspirations, and the importance of being present in the school community.

We’ve included Amelia’s full work below so families can read her reflections in her own words.

Celebrating the Power of Pupil Voice

We are incredibly proud of Amelia for representing Hallmoor with maturity and confidence. Her voice, along with those of other pupils across Birmingham, plays a vital role in shaping a more compassionate and inclusive understanding of school attendance.

By embracing Inclusive Attendance and amplifying our students’ lived experiences, we continue to build a school culture where every child feels seen, valued, and supported on their educational journey.
