Adverse Condition Procedure

At Hallmoor School, the safety of our pupils and staff is our top priority. In the event of adverse weather or the need to close the school due to issues such as heating we will carefully assess the situation and provide timely updates to help families make necessary arrangements.

Update: 23/06/26

Dear Parents and Carers,

Following the Met Office Red weather warning for extreme high temperatures across the West Midlands over the next two days, we have made the decision to close Hallmoor Special School on Wednesday 24th, Thursday 25th June and Friday 26th June 2026. This decision is in the interests of safety for all students, families, and staff.

Remote learning

Staff will post learning activities on Class Dojos by 9.30am tomorrow and will be available to support you, respond to any questions or queries during the closure.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

School will be open as normal on Monday 29th June

Morning Closures

  • Adverse Weather – We will aim to make a decision regarding school closure by 7:00 a.m. and communicate via text message in the first instance. We will update our website and Dojos as soon as possible after that.  Please ensure that we have an up to date mobile number to contact you.
  • If no notification is provided by 7:30 a.m., please assume the school is open.
  • Closure decisions will be made on a day-by-day basis depending on conditions such as on site, roads, local area and weather forecast.
  • Other issues – if an unforeseen situation arises, such as an issue with the heating system is not working we will aim to make a decision regarding school closure by 8:00 a.m. and communicate via text message in the first instance. We will update our website and Dojos as soon as possible after that.  The school will contact Transport as soon as possible.  If students are already on Transport or are independent travellers, students will be supervised in school until transport home has been arranged and parents contacted.

During the School Day

  • If heavy snow or an issue occurs during the day, we will contact parents/carers via text message and transport will be informed if an early closure is likely.
  • Transport firms may decide to collect pupils early for safety reasons. If this happens, the firm will contact you directly, and we will also send a message.

Transport Decisions

  • If the school is open but the transport firm deems travel unsafe, we will respect their decision not to transport pupils.
  • If you decide to bring your child to school, please note that you will be responsible for collecting them when the school day ends or if an early closure occurs.

If you have any questions or queries, please contact us in the normal way. If you decide not to bring your child into school due to adverse weather conditions, please email enquiry@hallmoor.fet.ac or send a Dojo message to your class teacher.

Please ensure that school always has up to date contact information such as telephone numbers and email addresses.
